As such, the level of customisation possible was relatively limited. However, working tirelessly with the owner and his team, a number of significant modifications were able to be applied - including replacing the bimini on the sun deck with a hard top and removing the Jacuzzi.” The Moonen team worked closely with the London-based designers at Studio Indigo in these last three months to ensure the perfect interior design. “Combined with fantastic interior styling, the finishing touch from the owners together with Studio Indigo really gave the boat heart and soul,” Dubbelman continues. “We delivered a vessel that suits the owners perfectly and we’re honoured and delighted to be recognised for our work on M/Y Brigadoon as a finalist at the upcoming World Superyacht Awards 2019.” In regards to her technical features, Brigadoon’s hull is constructed from high-tensile steel and is teamed with an aluminium superstructure. monaco yacht show 2017

MONACO YACHT SHOW 2017: THE SUPER BOWL OF LUXURY YACHTING From 27 to 30 September last in Monaco, the world’s greatest superyacht event brought together an exceptional concentration of superyachts and presented an exhibition of outstanding quality on the quayside. The 27th edition of the Monaco Yacht Show thus fulfilled all its promises and reflected a more buoyant market, supported notably by the strong attendance of American and Russian clients on the quays of Port Hercules to visit the 125 superyachts. This year’s fleet was larger and younger (average length 49m, 50% of the yachts less than two years old) and according to Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Show, it appealed to visitors right from the start: “The exhibitors were busy from Wednesday morning with business meetings on their stands and a full list of bookings for yacht visits. We felt that the whole industry was concerned by an event they’ve been preparing for months, with high trade expectations. By midday this impression was shared by all the different participants, brokers or shipyards who already confirmed negotiations with visitors interested in chartering or purchasing a yacht.” A new superyacht clientele invited by the MYS Organisers Attendance at this year’s edition is higher than last year with 36,400 participants (+8%) including an international business clientele but also private visitors invited by the MYS organisers via the Sapphire Experience programme. 160 ultra-qualified individuals thus enjoyed a bespoke stay in Monaco with visits of the superyachts displayed in Port Hercules. Around 400 appointments* on board were scheduled with the yachts’ representatives; one “Sapphire Experience” guest has already placed an order for a yacht (*calculated according to the aggregate total of visits scheduled for each guest). On the eve of the MYS, the 2nd edition of the Monaco Yacht Summit welcomed some fifty potential new superyacht clients – or their representatives – to discuss the key information to be borne in mind when chartering or purchasing a luxury yacht for the first time. The presence of these future owners or charterers in Port Hercules was the tangible result of the marketing and public relations actions managed by Gaëlle Tallarida and her team to promote encounters between the 580 exhibitors and new clients: “the Monaco Yacht Show has become a brand with a strong identity, clearly defined since the first edition in 1991. The MYS is unique in being the only “hybrid” show in the world exclusively dedicated to the universe of superyachting. We are proud to host both the B2B community and today’s and tomorrow’s superyacht purchasers. They make a perfect fit. A new yacht order generates important business activity for all sectors in the yachting industry. Owners are more and more involved in the building of their yachts. At the MYS, future buyers also meet the nautical suppliers to discover the latest interior designs, cutting-edge equipments or brand-new gadgets. And they love it!”An enthusiasm that was also obvious on Quai Antoine Ier with Tenders & Toys, the new exhibition dedicated to the trendiest luxury tenders and water toys on the market. An area unanimously praised by its exhibitors, who signed great sales and who have already requested bigger exhibition spaces for 2018. This success confirmed the boom of leisure activities linked with yachting, appreciated by a younger generation of clients for whom they represent one of the main reasons for chartering a yacht. For its second year of operation the Car Deck was again a great success, with the exhibition of 16 exclusive thoroughbred cars like the new Continental GT by Bentley unveiled for the first time in Europe at the Monaco Yacht Show. The classic cars by Mercedes-Benz, integrally rebuilt by Hemmels, or the iconic Cobra models by the US manufacturer Shelby – represented by Gentleman Car – generated business leads that will surely turn into sales in the coming weeks. Hoffmann & Novag,ue with the limited series of their HN R200 sports car, also enjoyed a successful first participation in the Car Deck. Aston Martin, Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz completed the car exhibition offered to the Show’s superyacht clientele.Launched in 2016, the Car Deck exhibition is a response to this natural convergence between yachting and the luxury car manufacturers, whether for joint projects or for the buyers of rare prestige cars who would like to discover the world of yachting. An exhibition extended to the whole of Port Hercules Extension of the 2017 MYS to the entire port made for greater fluidity of movement between the historic exhibition areas (Darse Sud, Parvis Piscine and the other quays) and the new tent on Quai Albert Ier or the Quai Antoine Ier, reorganised to provide a superyacht lifestyle environment. Exhibitors and visitors could discover the Starboard, the new exhibition lounge with its outdoor restaurant overlooking the port and a direct access to the Car Deck and to Tenders & Toys.Travel within the port was made easier by the various transport services including electric golf carts, shuttle boats and the MYS official application that calculated the fastest way to reach a stand or a yacht. Over 150 private events Press conferences, product presentations, cocktails on board yachts or on stands, private evening receptions – the enormous range of events organised by the exhibitors during the four days (and nights!) reflected the importance of public and press relations actions aimed at the high-end international audience and influential media at the Show.On Tuesday 26 September, the Monaco Yacht Show opened the four days of festivities with the MYS Inaugural Gala Party, held this year at Le Méridien Beach Plaza Hotel.400 privileged guests were invited to the Gala Party during which awards were made to three superyachts: Home (49,8m, 2017, Heesen Yachts), winner of the 2017 MYS/RINA Award, given to the most environmental-friendly yacht at the MYS; the Italian superyacht Seven Sins (52m, 2017, Sanlorenzo), winner of the 2017 MYS Interior Design Award; and the megayacht Jubilee (110m, 2017, Oceanco) which received two awards: the 2017 MYS Exterior Design Award and the 2017 MYS Finest New Superyacht Award.

For the second quarter EBITDA increased almost threefold to £50.4m, representing an EBITDA margin of 22.7%. During the second quarter, Aston Martin continued its product offensive with the launch of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 variant of the DB11, which combines a top speed of 187 mph with the most fuel efficient powertrain on offer by the company. It also announced plans for its first all-electric, zero-emission model: the limited-edition RapidE set to begin production in 2019. Demand for the DB11 and continued strong sales of the V12-powered Vanquish S and Vantage S models coincided with sell-out success for special-edition vehicles such as the Vanquish Zagato Coupe and continued development work on the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar in conjunction with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. As the company expands, conversion work is well underway on the new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in St Athan, where assembly of the upcoming DBX SUV model is due to start in 2019, supporting up to 750 new jobs in South Wales.Mark Wilson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, said: “The strength of our first-half results prove that our strategy is on track. We exceeded our budget for the tenth consecutive quarter, giving us confidence that we will deliver a step-change in full-year performance. We are increasing our baseline guidance for underlying earnings of £175m on revenues of £830m in 2017.”

will bugatti be next to join the exotic suv craze?

If you had told us a decade or two ago that exotic automakers would be breaking into the SUV market with six-figure luxury crossovers, we might very well have laughed in your face. But now we’re looking at a reality where the likes of Aston Martin, Maserati, and Lamborghini are launching ever-pricier and more exotic crossovers – as are Bentley and Rolls-Royce. So who’s next?Probably not Bugatti, if we’re to be honest about it. Though the Alsatian automaker has toyed with the idea of a four-door sedan with concepts as recent as the Galibier, the only vehicles it has actually produced in the past few quarter-century since its revival have been two-door, two-seat, mid-engined supercars – each with four turbochargers, double-digit cylinder-counts, stratospheric output levels, and even higher price tags.If Bugatti were to get in on this particular territory, though, the result might very well look something along these lines. Brought to us by Peisert Design, this rendering envisions a sport-ute called the Bugatti Megalon – a name that sounds about right, but borrows from a fictional, fighting giant insect monster (not a pre-war grand prix driver). It’s based on the Bentley Bentayga, but with design cues obviously inspired by the Chiron. And though the borrowed proportions might suggest otherwise, Jan Peisert tells us that he envisions the engine sitting in the back.As unlikely as it might seem, it wouldn’t be the first time that Bugatti would stick its neck out beyond the realm of two-door sports cars. Back in Ettore’s day, the original company delved into everything from trains to aircraft. The founder left “the world’s fastest lorries,” as he famously called them, to his rivals at Bentley. But now that the two are so closely linked (even presided over by the same CEO), it would only be fittingly ironic for Bugatti to follow suit with a million-dollar, thousand-horsepower sport-ute – and upstage its British counterpart in the process.

the story of the mercedes clk gtr supersport

Many things about the way people use language peeves the hell out of me – but if there's one thing I abhor more than anything else, it's the way in which folk overuse the word "literally". I'm sure I'm not alone in this boat. Not only is the word said too frequently, it's said in situations where it causes massive and implausible exaggerations. People will refer to trivial things such as the sound of nails scraping down a chalkboard as "literally, the worst thing in the world". Not Nuclear War, as I'd foolishly thought like the numskull that I am.Of course, as someone who often says things in jest, I appreciate that we all have a duty – that more people need to exercise – to take things with a pinch of proverbial salt. But the frequent and incorrect use of the word literally is LITERALLY doing my brain in! And that's why I know that every comment I received for this blog will try to incorporate the word "literally" in some way or another. The biggest problem however with disliking the use of a particular word comes when you are required to use that very word in circumstances where it's warranted – like now... The GT1 Class of the FIA GT Championship was literally one of the greatest racing classes ever to grace the Earth. Not just because of the racing – but because of one particularly epic road car it spawned: the Mercedes CLK GTR. One of the most race-focused homologation-hypercars ever to touch the public highways, culminating in the astonishing SuperSport variant. This is the story of that very car, and how Mercedes arrived at producing what is still to this day the most maniacal car they've ever made. If like me you're a child of the 90's, then unless you have memories from inside the womb, you won't be able to cast your mind back to a time when endurance racing never existed. Not back so far to a time when such a thing had never happened before – but to a time when the world was entirely bereft of any international endurance racing series'. That time was a dark period of loneliness; the great depression of motorsport. Fortunately, it only lasted for the year of 1993. The World Sportscar Championship – which had been an endurance racing series since 1953 – folded after the 1992 season due to a lack of entrants for 1993. This was a meteoric blow for international motorsport, because it meant the death of endurance racing. This unacceptable scenario resulted in 3 men putting their heads together – Jurgen Barth (who won Le Mans in 1977), Patrick Peter, and Stephane Ratel. Together, they would form the BPR Global GT Series – the name of which is an acronym of the first letter in each of the creators' surnames. The BPR Series started in 1994, but it wasn't really until 1995 that it really got exciting thanks to the entry of the McLaren F1 GTR. For the sake of fairness, the series was split into 4 different speed categories – GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 – with GT1 being the fastest, and so on. The McLaren F1 GTR sat in the GT1 class, along with other supercar icons as the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 911. But thanks to the supremely fast McLaren, the GT1 class wasn't so much a race as a selection of Ferraris and Porsches watching McLarens disappear. The McLaren F1 GTR won the championship in 1995 and 1996 – and it even won Le Mans outright in 1995. As exceptional as the F1 GTR was however, it did have a fundamental flaw as a racing car, for it was originally a road car that had been converted to race, and not a car that from birth was destined to conquer every circuit on Earth. In fact, if it wasn't for the influential input of 3 particularly important McLaren F1 owners, McLaren would never have even considered turning their masterpiece into a racer. The F1 GTR's dominance was predominantly thanks to its magic combination of a featherweight carbon chassis with a monstrously powerful BMW V12 engine. Absolutely nothing could get near it. The series garnered a great deal of success, which in turn caught the attention of Porsche and Mercedes. Porsche already had a car competing in the GT1 class in the form of their 993 GT2 Evo, but just like the McLaren, it was a road car that had been modified to go racing. Porsche therefore decided to create a purpose built racing car that could put an end to the McLaren's reign, and towards the end of the 1996 season, it was ready: the Porsche 911 GT1.The Porsche being a late entrant in the 1996 competition, it wasn't eligible to collect any championship points – but that tiny omission didn't change the fact that the 911 GT1 was the machine that showed the McLaren F1 GTR what the back of a car looked like, because Porsche had created a faster racing car. All of a sudden, it was the car to beat, and was expected to walk the 1997 season. But unfortunately for Porsche, Mercedes had other ideas. Towards the end of 1996, Mercedes and AMG had collaborated in order to build their own purpose built racing car. Back in 1996, Mercedes and AMG weren't part of the same company; it wasn't until 1998 that Mercedes purchased a significant portion of AMG, and it took until 2005 for Merc to finally buy the AMG brand completely. But in 1996, they got together with the objective of crafting a racing car, which began by purchasing a McLaren F1 GTR. This may sound like a peculiar way to begin building a racing car – but it was actually a fantastic move. Not only did it help them find out just how fast their competition was – but it also gave them a means to test their own engine while they were still developing their own custom chassis. It seems blasphemous to consider engine swapping a McLaren F1 GTR – but this was no ordinary heart transplant. For in place of the BMW 6.1L V12, they placed an AMG 6L V12 – code named M120. They then bolted to the McLaren's chassis their own custom prototype bodywork, which looked suspiciously like a McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail's body. Without the use of a Crystal Ball however, the Mercedes couldn't have been influenced by the Long Tail due to how the LT never raced until the following year. By fitting the AMG engine, the car ran around the Jarama circuit in Spain 2 seconds a lap faster than the McLaren F1 GTR did in the 1996 BPR series. That might not sound like a lot – but in racing, that's enough time to grow a reasonably sized beard. By using a McLaren F1 GTR as a test mule, it not only served as a means of testing their engine, it also helped speed up the Mercedes-AMG development program for what would become the CLK GTR Racing Car. All in all, the CLK GTR took just 128 days to design – which in car-design terms, isn't enough time to blink. In 1997, the BPR Global GT Series was taken over by the FIA, and subsequently changed to the FIA GT Championship. The performance classifications were now limited to just 2 – GT1 and GT2 – but it was in the top GT1 class that the world witnessed the coming of Mercedes's new racing car: the CLK GTR. Despite the fact that Mercedes and AMG had used a McLaren F1 GTR for testing, nothing on the CLK GTR came from the McLaren. With the threat from Porsche, McLaren had also been busy at work creating a faster racing car – the McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail, which turned out to be the CLK's biggest rival. Early teething problems with the CLK left the door wide open for the McLaren, which won the first 3 races of the 1997 season. But for there on out, the 622bhp CLK GTR dominated and went on to win both the FIA GT Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships in 1997. Mercedes won both of these titles again in 1998; however, due to entering into the Le Mans race of that year – something which they hadn't done in 1997 – the way they won the championship took an unexpected turn. They'd already won the first 2 races of the 1998 season in their CLK GTR, but between the 2nd and 3rd race, Le Mans beckoned (for those who don't know, Le Mans wasn't part of the GT Championship racing calendar). In preparing the car for the 24 hour race, Mercedes didn't think the 6L V12 would be suited to running at maximum output for so long. They therefore removed the V12 engine and enrolled the talents of a V8 engine – code named M119 – that'd famously seen use in the Sauber Mercedes C9. In the Sauber however, the V8 was boosted by Twin-Turbos; in the CLK, it was normally aspirated, and had its displacement increased slightly from 4973cc to 4986, resulting in 600bhp. Mercedes also decided to alter the aerodynamics of the CLK in order to make the car better suited to the extremely high speeds of Le Mans. For a start, they lowered the nose, replaced the two brake-cooling ducts with a single larger one, lowered and adjusted the rake of the roof, and redesigned the roof-mounted air intake. Along with a variety of other mechanical changes, they'd turned the CLK GTR into the CLK LM. The visual differences between the GTR and the LM can be seen in the above photograph. Come the big race, Mercedes's decision to replace the V12 with the V8 seemed to be a wise one, as they'd managed to qualify on pole. However, their belief in the engine ultimately turned out to be ill-calculated, because both of the LMs that Mercedes had entered suffered engine failure. For the continuing 8 races of the 1998 GT Championship however, Mercedes persisted with the V8 engined CLK LM. It turned out to be a wise move, as they won every single race of the contest. This however was a problem for the GT1 class as a whole. The unmatchable omnipotence of the CLK GTR and LM proved to be the catalyst that killed off the GT1 class in the FIA GT Championship; it resulted in no other manufacturer putting themselves forward to enter into the 1999 season, as they'd only be there to look at the arse of a CLK as it gradually vanished out of sight. While that may seem negative and cowardly, you can't really blame them. I mean, if Superman entered an Arm Wrestling contest, would you bother challenging him knowing you'd be put through the table? Given that the FIA had no entrants, they were forced to pull the plug on the GT1 class, meaning the GT Championship was contested only by the GT2 division. But even though the CLK's racing days were now officially over - and it could walk away as a champion so phenomenally supreme, that all other contenders backed down – there was still one rather major problem plaguing Mercedes, and that was the glaring discrepancy of unfulfilled homologation promises. The FIA stipulated that in order to race in the GT1 class, manufacturers needed to make so many road going versions of their racing cars too. Other makers had honoured their homologation promises – but Mercedes on the other hand hadn't. They'd promised to make 25 road going versions of the CLK GTR – of which they'd only made one, which was retained by Mercedes and not put up for sale. The fact that Mercedes didn't have a homologated production road car throughout their racing days riled the other manufacturers. But their promise of 25 production cars was one they had no choice but to keep, so between the winter of 1998 and the summer of 1999, a further 25 road cars were built. The CLK GTR was made between AMG and another company called HWA, which was founded in 1998 as a spin-off to AMG when Mercedes snapped up a majority of their performance counterparts. The racing cars were given the slightest dusting of civility to turn them into road cars. A little bit of leather was added, a stereo, and air conditioning – which sounds nice, but it was rather like adding a couple of scatter cushions to a cave. For that real racing car feeling, the CLR GTR Road car came equipped with a 6-speed paddle shift gearbox. But unlike the smooth DSGs of today which can swap gears without allowing so much as your eyelashes to flinch, the CLK's was rather more rudimentary. It required the use of a clutch pedal to pull away and to change gear. You could slot it into gear without the clutch if you were a Jedi-Master at rev-matching – but really and truly, it just wasn't worth the risk. The biggest difference however came in the form of what that gearbox was connected to. In the GTR racing car, it was a 6L V12; in the GTR road car, it was a 6.9L V12, capable of producing 604bhp. Put through the real wheels alone of the 3175lb (1440kg) GTR road car, it could get you from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, 0-100mph in 6.5 seconds, and onwards to a top speed of 214mph. That made it one of the fastest cars on Earth at the time – but the area in which it lead the world was price, because back in 1999 the CLK GTR cost $1,550,000, nearly $2.3MILLION in today's money. As a result of this, only 20 of the cars sold. Rather than leave the remaining 6 cars (including the first car that was made back in 1997) sitting around, HWA had a rather ingenious brainwave: they modified them by turning them into Roadsters. Now you could have a racing car-like experience with the wind rushing through your hair. If the normal CLK GTR didn't present a striking enough pose for you, then the Roadster version sure as hell should. By combining the entities of a homologation-hypercar and a roadster they made something with might have been a bit pointless, but was truly spectacular in every way. Not only that, but the addition of a different aerodynamics package – as can be identified from the rear wing – made the car even more menacing. From a driver's perspective however, there was one rather pressing problem: the modifications the car had received to turn it into a roadster had incurred a 231lb (105kg) weight penalty, bringing the weight of the car up to 3406lbs (1545kg). Dynamically at least, the coupe was still the best. The ultimate expression of what the CLK GTR road car could be however was secretly lurking within those 20 original coupes, because 2 of them were harbouring a rather special something: a 7.3L AMG V12 – the same one that would go on to power the Pagani Zonda – producing 655bhp!! These 2 monsters were known as the Mercedes CLK GTR SuperSport. The SuperSport was, once again, a product of the AMG spin-off HWA. For it was their lunacy that elected to put that blissful beating heart into the CLK GTR, and in doing so, they also made some changes to the front splitter to improve the car's stability at high speeds – which was very wise indeed. Considering there was only 2 SuperSports made, the exact performance figures have never officially been specified – but through all the conjecture, some claim that the top speed was as high as 232mph!!  One of the 2 SuperSports – Chassis No17 – was originally painted red with a tan interior, making it standout from the ubiquitous silver exterior and black interior that virtually all other CLK GTRs had. When the car swapped hands however, it was then painted silver – but so it didn't blend completely in with the rest of the CLK GTR crowd, the interior was re-trimmed in red. The Mercedes CLK GTR came from a truly astonishing era of motorsport. Basing the road car on the racing car, instead of the other way around, resulted in a hypercar unlike almost anything else you'd see on the roads. It will never matter how much time flies on by, the sight of the CLK GTR is enough to hypnotise anyone into staring at it in pure awe. But just remember: if when peering inside you see red leather, the car is even more special - literally!

the black car dress (1)

The Lamborghini TOROFEOFor its freshest creation the Mansory specialists dressed up the "little" Lamborghini Huracan with a completely new look in carbon fibre. The TOROFEO is a truly horsepower-beast, although it looks like a usual Mansory bull. The original 610 hp (449kw) got tuned-up to mind-boggling 1,250 hp! In only 2.7 seconds it starts racing on forged alloy wheels up to 100km/h and stops beyond 340km/h. The little black car dressI am really in love with the black, shining style in visible carbon fibre. This magical 'car dress' looks simple, but having the same effect equally to the 'little black dress' by the iconic grand lady of the fashion world- Coco Chanel! The motorcar garmentmakerIs it possible to compare car tuning shops with us fashion designers? Do they act like motorcar garmentmaker, developing prêt-a porter and haute couture styles for cars? In my opinion, they do, because they dress up the cars. The extremely example for this comparison is MANSORY.... They are playing with colour, contrast, forms and using carbon fibre like haute couture designers ordering 1000th meters of exquisite material for their next fashion collection.   Full story on my CarsInFashion Magazin   :

lynk & co looking to change an industry

LYNK & CO, The Innovative Swedish Car Brand Looking To Change An IndustryGeely Auto Group has launched LYNK & CO, a new global car brand with the ambition to challenge the conventions of the automobile industry Designed and engineered in Sweden and born digital, LYNK & CO introduces a new business model, an open API, personalised services, sharing possibilities and the first dedicated app store for cars. In keeping with the Swedish mantra of ‘the product speaks for itself’, the first car in the range has simply been named 01. Alain Visser, Senior Vice President of LYNK & CO commented: “Our industry has been refining design and engineering successfully for decades – but not so much the distribution and ownership model. Our customers’ values and preferences have evolved dramatically. It is time for us to step into the future and reinvent the model to become a comprehensive solution for mobility and lifestyle. This is LYNK & CO – introducing a premium, state-of-the-art range of cars – at the most accessible of price points, challenging and redesigning every link in the chain. Our aim is to enrich and simplify car ownership by redefining how they are bought, owned, connected, serviced and used.” The LYNK & CO 01 will be followed by 02, 03 and so forth as a full range – reflecting the brand’s idea of simplifying and challenging industry conventions, right down to model names. The 01 is characterised by a strong personality in its design, capturing both its European and Chinese genes, and the latest technology – the heart of which is an ‘always connected’ state, and open application programming interface (API).= The LYNK & CO brand and the 01 have been developed to address the needs and preferences of the new global and connected generation of consumers. Its natural habitat is the mega-city and these frantic and culturally diverse places have provided much inspiration. “The design brief for LYNK & CO was simple: the cars should stand out from the crowd and appeal to a truly global audience. From a distance, we have a European design approach. Get closer, and you see more and more detail, such as the intricate lights, and the type of grain on the interior leather. A strong wide grille completes the distinctive ‘face’ of the car. We wanted to acknowledge that our users are extremely tech-savvy – a smartphone is an integral part of their lives and our interior design reflects that and feels familiar in the context of new technology” said Andreas Nilsson, Head of LYNK & CO design The engineering and technology for the new range is developed under CEVT (China Euro Vehicle Technology), the shared Geely and Volvo research and innovation centre. The new LYNK & CO 01, and each of the forthcoming line-up of LYNK & CO cars will be based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) – an advanced modular architecture capable of accommodating many body styles and sizes – which also underpins Volvo’s new compact car range and many upcoming Geely models. As well as its dimensions, CMA is also wholly modular, able to accommodate a wide range of different powertrains, electrical systems, passive and active safety systems and technologies. Thanks to CEVT’s focus on digital simulation, the architecture has been developed with advanced quality and far quicker than conventional automotive structures. Always connected The core and heart of the LYNK & CO brand is connectivity. Customers will find a range of connected technologies on offer in the vehicles, all aimed at making life easier. All cars will come with a large central touchscreen and telematics systems that are always connected to the internet and the car’s own cloud. The car has a share button, enabling the owner to provide others with access to the vehicle via a shareable digital key. Via the LYNK & CO app they control, monitor and share their car from a smartphone – or directly from the car. “While other car brands are undergoing a digital transformation, LYNK & CO is born digital. The lack of legacy systems and the ability to build solutions in the cloud enable us to depart from the old model of car sales and service to bring the customer seamlessly through an omnichannel platform, with intuitive interaction at every touchpoint – from researching and purchase and all the way through to owning, sharing, servicing and re-selling.” David Green, Chief Digital Officer of LYNK & CO LYNK & CO sets out from the start to be open to outside innovation and aims to be the first organisation in the world to leverage a complete commercial platform, to bring innovative applications and services to the customer. LYNK & CO collaborates closely with Microsoft and Alibaba to build a whole new digital customer infrastructure for the car industry, with new digital order, supply, sales and CRM systems and custom applications for user interaction. Ericsson and LYNK & CO have teamed up to create the latest car connectivity cloud. The digital platform will feature an API open to third-party developers, which will provide endless opportunities to personalise, enrich and expand the experience. Renowned Swedish safetyThe new LYNK & CO 01 and all future models will perform at the cutting edge of the sector in terms of vehicle safety. A very experienced safety team, drawing on expertise and legacy from the Volvo Safety Centre, has developed CMA, the vehicle structure and safety systems. Using a highly advanced front structure, featuring compact engines and a three-legged support arrangement, the amount of crash energy absorbed in a controlled way through the side beams and crash structures is maximised. All LYNK & CO models are developed to meet the latest top rating for China, European and US public domain safety ratings. As well as all its passive safety features, the LYNK & CO 01 will feature Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB), Pedestrian Detection with automatic emergency braking, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to name just some of its active safety systems. Powertrains – electrification for allThe LYNK & CO range, beginning with the LYNK & CO 01 will be available with a range of ultra-efficient powertrains. The engines will allow for fuel economy figures and performance among the best in their class. the mercedes-benz pick up truck

Look out, luxury vehicle makers. Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled their newest concept car: the X-Class. Two versions of the vehicle were previewed at their showcase in Stockholm, Sweden this past week, giving the public a peek at both a luxury model and a model more suitable for off-road usage. Mercedes-Benz claims that this is the world's first premium pickup truck, despite the fact that it has been producing various models of trucks for several years.  This new model comes at a time when pickup truck purchases are at an all-time high. According to Business Insider, the Mercedes-Benz is seeking to fill a gap in their portfolio of vehicles and get an edge on a market where truck purchases have increased by nearly 20% in the past year.  The truck is set to hit markets in Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia by the end of 2017. Despite the massive popularity of pickup trucks in the United States, there has been no word from the company about a release date. There has also been no indication about the purchasing costs of the vehicles, though many are speculating that they will begin at approximately $75,000.  By Kat Ward

women’s track day with 2017 r8 coupe

If there’s one thing Audi knows how to do, it’s put on an event. To open a dialogue regarding women in the world of racing, the esteemed automotive brand held their very first Women’s Track Day on October 10, 2016. The affair starred the 2017 Audi R8 Coupe (both the 540-hp V10 and the 610-hp V10 plus) and professional driver Lea Croteau, and was held at the invitation-only Thermal Club in Palm Springs, CA.Fairly new to the luxury auto scene, the Thermal Club opened just last year and offers a 4.5-mile track that includes a half-mile straight, which practically begs you to reach 150 mph. After being fit with Audi-branded helmets and getting a rundown of the cars, journalists were led out to the track to go through a series of introductory laps. Though some were nervous to be driving such a powerful machine, Croteau was always in the lead R8, speaking through a walkie-talkie to give us tips of the track. As a professional driver who has perfected her skill set over the past 20 years through disciplines like sports car racing, ice racing, drift driving performances, stunt driving in film and being an IndyCar pace car driver, we couldn’t have asked for a better teacher.  Though many of these events give you limited time behind the wheel, Audi actually set aside the entire afternoon for us to spend on the track. The first couple rounds were taken at a cool 60 mph, so we could become familiar with the twists and turns. Once everyone was comfortable and ready to ramp things up a notch, two of us at a time got to race after the pro at speeds most of us could never dream of reaching. The final round allowed us to individually follow Croteau at whatever speed we wanted, comfortable with the knowledge that somehow, she knew exactly how hard to push us.Designed for the driver in mind, the R8’s 12.3-inch virtual cockpit LCD screen includes all of the car’s instruments and navigation, offering several options as to how you want it to look. Though the cars come with a five-speaker, 140-watt stereo system, you can upgrade it to the optional 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen system that gives 550 watts for an extra $1,900. As we jumped back and forth between the V10 (offering 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm and a top track speed of 199 mph) and V10 plus (with 413 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm and a top track speed of 205 mph), we definitely got to experience all the R8 has to offer. While Audi officially states that the V10 has a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds (3.2 seconds for the V10 plus), the pros on-hand at the Thermal Club pointed out that the cars have actually been testing much better. For instance, Motor Trend tested the plus and got it to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds – that’s faster than the Bugatti Veyron, FYI.With speeds that high, handling and breaking has to be top notch. The Quattro all-wheel drive makes it easy to take the corners and pull through stretches without breaking a sweat. And while the ceramic breaks can be a bit jerky when going for a smooth, slow stop from 40 mph, they work absolutely perfectly when coming to a stop from 150 mph. The only real challenge of driving the R8 is to trust in the car and set your fears aside.  Actually, I take that back. The real challenge comes when you leave the track for the streets. While the R8 is certainly easy to drive on Comfort mode, I missed the aggressiveness of the track and found myself having a hard time sticking to the speed limit. The only thing that kept me driving 55 mph was Audi’s assurance that no, they would not be paying for any speeding tickets. The 2017 Audi R8 Coupe V10 starts at $162,900 and the V10 plus starts at $189,900. By Mila Pantovich
