Maida Vale is such an idyllic location and seemingly made for the summer with the tranquil Regent’s Canal and Little Venice providing a Mediterranean flair. First Restaurant Group have certainly cornered the market in this part of the world with the revamp of their canal-side all-weather terrace at The Waterway. This could be one of London’s best alfresco spots and feels like a hidden gem.  Cocktails are expertly mixed with The Mask consisting of Ketel One Citron shaken with Chambord, elderflower & pineapple juice coming in for high praise. Other cocktails of note include the Carnival with aperol & Antica Formula shaken with fresh orange juice, lime juice vanilla syrup and egg white. Simply fabulous.  But on to the food... Starters are adequately prepared with the smoked salmon & crab being the standout favourite. Fresh and stimulating is the byword for the sashimi avocado tuna tartare and alongside the branded plates presents a nice touch. Mains are not overly ambitious, nor does it need to be. You would almost expect just the usual faire of burgers and steak (which is available) but what you also get is an inspired menu perfect for summer with the seared fillet of tuna melting in the mouth while the lamb shank slid off the bone.  The wine selection is also bold with wines available by the glass and bottle. The Viognier Vin de Pays D’Oc is a terrace friendly wine tasting of apricots, peaches and exotic fruits but the Gavi di Gavi is the obvious standout. If you have room for dessert, the classic chocolate brownie is revived with a chocolate and caramel sauce while the pineapple tart and nougat ice cream works well together. Altogether, a pleasant experience.  Simple cooking presented well along with a spacious terrace has turned this local haunt into a destination restaurant. sofitel wine days - uncover wine excellence

Sofitel London St James is well known for its five-star appeal. The French chain is housed in a Grade II listed former bank and upon entry, you find a visually stunning lobby along with the Balcon restaurant. The Art Deco feel is clear from the moment you walk in and their "Wine Days" experience is the perfect accompaniment to their already excellent food and drink offering. The Cave de Ribeauvillé (2015 Pinot Blanc Collection) is paired with seared mackerel, pickled vegetables, horseradish and fennel purée and fully exploits the rich, ripe and fruity flavour of the wine. Meanwhile, the Cave de Ribeauvillé (Clos Zahnacker 2009) counteracts the strong flavour of the goat's cheese and allows the pomegranate honey and almonds to shine. This blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer has a firm body and is perfectly paired. The Balcon offers a plat du jour including Welsh lamb paired with Izadi Rioja Reserva (2012), Bavette Steak paired with  Wairau River Pinot Noir (2014) and Mussels in Breton cider paired with Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc (2015). Another wine of note is the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Viognier (2016) which works as a dessert wine with apricot and pear and notes of honey.  The service is extremely polished and the entire experience is one of luxury. Vorig jaar was ik in Bordeaux begin oktober. Ik heb geoogst bij Domaine Andron, dicht bij St.Estephe .... De druiven waren uitstekend en wij deden Harvest Merlot druiven! Domaine Andron is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Cabernet Franc. Vandaag ben ik hart dat 2016 uitzonderlijk in Bordeaux. Ik heb 1 pallet (600 flessen) van Domaine Andron 2012 pakket in houten dozen van 6 Flessen gekocht. After many years of working in gastronomy in NL/CH and GB I have learned a lot about People, Food & Wine. Since two years I import wines from Germany, Swiss & France. Not Just wines wich you Will find in supermarkets or restaurants and wineshops. I'm always searching for Unique wines, biological and special in there area. I have found a Unique Champagne; Victor & Charles 'Blanc de Blanc' vintage 2009. A very elegant mousse and rich aroma of flowers and fruit. In Germany I did met Martin Cooper, he is original from West-Auatralia (Perth) and has been working as 'flying Winemaker in Californië, South-Afrika, Bordeaux etc. Since 2014. Martin is The owner of Kloster Ebernach in Cochem/Mosel. Martin is making The best Riesling in this area and has only 10 HA. His wines go very Well with fish and veal / lamb. Soho is a peculiar beast. No glitz and glamour like Mayfair, this once maligned area in the West End has been stuck in its own bubble in history but over recent years, has developed quite a foodie following. Several chefs and restaurateurs have struck it lucky such as Jason Atherton, Russell Norman and Alan Yau to name a few. You can now welcome Adam Simmonds to that list who is also one of the nicest chefs you'll meet.  After 28 years in the industry (and a few Michelin stars), his passion for cooking has not diminished and that is shown in his latest project - The Test Kitchen. There is a trend for pop-ups as a safe way of introducing your cooking to an audience that is already spoilt for choice in London. However, you will find something different when you take on his small plate tour de force. Situated on Frith Street in the site that was previously Barrafina, regulars would have been used to tapas style dishes by now, but Adam and his team have conjured up something special. There are several hits on the menu with salt baked swede with blackberries, cocoa nibs and goats cheese working surprisingly well. White asparagus, linzer potatoes, caviar and whey was very pleasing in texture while the cured red mullet, green tomatoes (in ice), rocket and fresh almonds showed the team's adventurous streak. The meat selections, however, were taken up a notch with the infamous lamb with king oyster, pickled shallot and "milk skin" which melts in the mouth. The standout dessert is undoubtedly the milk chocolate mousse with whisky and coffee but the friendly staff and "kitchen table" experience will leave a lasting impression. Look out for a permanent site in 2018.

razmataz outstanding cuisine in amsterdam!

Amsterdam is one of the most crowded cities in the world these days. If you're looking to find that authentic Amsterdam atmosphere just outside all the tourist hustle and bustle, you might want to consider eating at Razmataz Restaurant. Situated near the center of Amsterdam at the Hugo de Grootplein 7-15, Razmataz is the place of choice for your breakfast, luch, diner, private dining party or after diner drinks. They serve over 50 different Gin’s and many other delicious cocktails. Pure off the Road was graciously invited to enjoy a diner at Razmataz Restaurant. Owner Iris Molkenboer hosted this diner,  a very friendly young lady with a big passion for France and Italian wines. For starters we were served a very nice Gazpacho with basil oil. Lovely...After this taste explosion the next course arrived; the Coquille St. Jaqques, cream of green peas, pickled chioggia beet, smoked tomato and crumble of anchovy, followed by a plate of slowly cooked veal, truffle dressing, green asparagus, poached quail egg and Manchego cheese.  For our main course we were served grilled porc file, bell pepper, black olives, chorisso served with small patatoes and turnip. There was also a choice for fish as the main course; on the skin baked sea bass, creame of wild spinach and garlic, red lentils, tomato, beetroot and smoked beurre blanc. Dessert brought a Cheese selection by Fromagerie Abraham Keft (Amsterdam most famous and oldeset cheese shop) to the table, served with a very special dessert wine, Macvin de Jura. For those with a sweet tooth they have an amazing Delicce de chocolat. Hot chocolat cake with a melted heart served with Velonosi Vin 2010  Lacrima de Moro...  Razmataz, thank you for the invitation, we had a great time and very much enjoyed the special dishes and wines.Bravo Razmataz, we are impressed, and will highly recommend you to all visiting Amsterdam! RazmatazHugo de Grootplein 7-151052 KV AmsterdamThe Netherlands+31 20 4868408www.razmataz.nl

Great grilled beef, local chicken and lamb, delicious chips and tomato salad; the best on the island. If undecided, have the mixed grill, the rest just comes, that's about all that's on the menu, it is one for the carnivores. La Mezcaleria For fantastic fresh and innovative Mexican food and cocktails in Ibiza's very historic, gorgeous old town. Javi the utterly charming  proprietor has an admirable collection of Mezcal and shares his extensive knowledge. Put yourself in his capable hands and the experience will be magical. Tasting and sharing is the way forward here. Have the fresh oysters with smoky mezcal, the civiche, shrimp civiche, a taco or two. In between, tiny sips of mescal. For cocktails the guava margarita is just heaven. El Chiringuito at Aguas Blancas Located on one of the island's most beautiful Northern white sand beaches. Best for simple rustic feet in the sand sandwiches, salads and mojitos. Try the chicken fillet or beef with cheese, avocado and chimichurri or a gorgeous salad. Don't miss the chimchurri, if you're not having a sandwich, I use it for salad dressing, it's divine. When touring around the north of the island on your moto, this lunch bar is a must stop. Anne trained at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Massachusetts and she now writes about the relationship between food, place and culture. Since taking over Can Riero in Ibiza 10 years ago, Anne has dedicated herself to studying Eivissa's food culture, meeting cheese-makers, bakers, bee-keepers, fishermen, herders and the fellow farmers who are leading Ibiza’s burgeoning sustainable food movement, and she supplies the only local organic produce on the island to top restaurants and private chefs.Anne’s inaugural cookbook 'Eivissa: The Ibiza Cookbook' is available here.
